The post holder will be involved in identifying and maximising opportunities to communicate through web technology. The Digital Officer will support and develop and maintain websites, including design and content, so that the sites meet the needs of internal and external audiences.
GCSE English language or equivalent
Educated to degree level or equivalent experience.
A minimum of 18 months experience of developing content for internet and intranet sites
Writing/editing content for websites and social media channels
Web development using HTML
Experience of photo manipulation and basic graphics creation using Photoshop (or similar package).
Training other members of staff eg to use web editing software
Familiar with Adobe Creative Suite, especially Dreamweaver, Adobe Acrobat Professional, Photoshop and Illustrator
Familiar with CSS and ASP.Net
Familiar with content management systems eg Contensis
Excellent knowledge of Microsoft Office Packages.
Skills, abilities and knowledge
Good knowledge of design
Understanding of the industry principles for on-screen content
Ability to write clearly
Ability to translate user provided content into useful web pages, and edit copy clearly for the web
Attention to detail and ability to work to tight deadlines
Ability to work creatively and prioritise own workload

Free Job description Digital Officer
Act as an administrator for the content management system (user set up, password allocation, content structuring, template creation, problem solving, etc).
Develop, work within, and advise colleagues on the guidelines and style sheets for the design, content and maintenance of all websites. These will ensure the sites are consistent with house style and brand identity guidelines.
Check and maintain appropriate links to other websites.
Promote the use of web technology internally, co-ordinating special projects and events, and providing training for staff
Build effective working relationships with staff and with key external stakeholders.
Act as a central point for handling enquiries and requests from colleagues about the Internet and Intranet.
Work closely with other members of the team to identify communications opportunities and to ensure the Internet is used effectively to engage and involve staff customers
and other audiences,
Contribute to the development of electronic systems that will enhance our distribution systems and enable us to communicate with key audiences effectively, for example, through the provision of electronic information
As a member of the communications team, the Digital Officer will be required to contribute to the day-to-day running of the communications department. Duties are likely to include:
-participating in the digital team’s rota, handling requests, enquiries and updates
-taking calls from the media and referring them to other members of the team where appropriate
providing office cover and assistance in the event of major stories or issues
Ensure that all websites reflect corporate objectives and meet the relevant national requirements.
Support the technical maintenance of the websites.
Create and edit content ensuring that it is appropriate for the web and for all audiences.
Page layout and design, HTML and CSS template design and development.
Support members of staff to be local intranet editors for their department and offer guidance and technical help.
Develop training and communication materials for this group with strong emphasis on usability and accessibility.
Quality control and monitoring of content created by departmental editors. Ensure that it is regularly reviewed
