Devise the digital, distribution and technology strategy for the whole organisation.    Be accountable for driving the delivery of the digital and technology strategy on behalf of the organisation.   Shape the strategic direction of by providing senior strategic insights and influencing the senior management.

An in-depth understanding and strong technological understanding, sufficient to provide the Directors with the appropriate level of support.


A track record of success in a senior management role.

Experience in resolving complex and politically sensitive issues.

Substantial experience of leading complex projects.

Substantial experience of advising at Director/Board level.


Leadership and management of professional teams and external advisors.

Influencing and negotiating on complex business and policy issues.

Represent the organisation externally with e.g. industry bodies, government departments, potential partners.

Leadership and management of professionals teams and proven experience of coaching and feedback (upwards as well as downwards).

Evaluate a range of complex strategic issues, making connections and identifying trade-offs

Demonstrate political sensitivity and commercial instincts in judgements

Free Job description Digital Strategy


Work to devise online and distribution strategies and to deliver them


Ensure proper sharing of knowledge across common areas and development of strategies which reflect the needs of the business  as a whole


Take a perspective and balance divisional needs with overall needs.


Bring external thinking into the organisation, and challenge current ways of working.


Provide the strategic tools / approach needed to help solve  business issues.


Build good external relationships with other key organisations.


Act as key interface between the Divisional Directors, the other Controllers and Heads of Strategy and the Central Strategy team.


Deputise for the Director on strategic issues.


Assist with prioritisation and business planning within the Division and help the senior management team translate plans into detailed initiatives.


Use judgement to plan strategic work and identify what work is better undertaken by other leaders within division.


Determine the best resource for the projects the post will be leading / commissioning.


Lead major strategy projects, line managing members of the  strategy team (and other project members from within or outside for the duration of the project.


At times, be a member of a project team lead by another Head of Strategy/Policy, or senior leader from outside the Division.


Provide detailed structured feedback for the team.


Represent division, bringing divisional experience, knowledge and expertise to cross-divisional strategic issues / projects.


Ensure division is represented in the regular performance reports.


This may mean working with members of the Central team to undertake elements of the reporting but ultimately accountable for ensuring that reporting is undertaken.

Influence strategic and policy decision making at Exec Board level including (as appropriate) the development and launch of new services.


Act as a key interface with the wider Policy & Strategy team to ensure strategic alignment and one approach to driving forward and delivering on the digital vision


Lead major strategy projects that shape the future of the Division.


Line managing the Digital Strategy team.  Be accountable for relevant performance reporting, with support from Central Strategy.
