Free job description Finance Analyst
This role will support the work of the department through the development and maintenance of tools and processes, bringing together data from a number of sources utilising advanced IT techniques.
•The post holder is responsible for the production of Annual Reference cost / Programme budget returns and must ensure that returns are completed and submitted according to the timetable,
•The post holder will be required to liaise with managers and other finance and non-finance staff in order to understand the complexities of the ’s activities. The post holder will be required to convey financial concepts clearly and persuasively to non-finance managers.
•The post holder will review complex information and use initiative to make judgements about the allocation of income/costs and the allocation of activity information.
•The post holder will undertake comparisons and benchmarking of SLR and reference costs with previous data and other comparables, to understand variances and anomalies and proactively take action to improve the quality of this information or discuss potential changes to service recording/ counting/ provision.
•The post holder will explore how Business Intelligence Data Warehousing solution could be utilised to support the department.
•The post holder will ensure written procedures are in place for all reporting for which the post holder has responsibility and will be responsible for ensuring all procedure notes are regularly reviewed and up-dated.
•The post holder is to assist in the provision of finance training to budget holders and internal finance staff on costing issues.
•The post holder is able to work independently on a daily basis to meet financial timetables/priorities/deadlines
•Any other duties as commensurate with the grade of the post.
QUALIFICATIONS/
TRAINING
Degree or equivalent professional qualification in a logical/analytical discipline (e.g. Business Finance, IT, Mathematics) or equivalent knowledge
GCSE/ ‘O’ level Mathematics Grade A-C or equivalent qualification
EXPERIENCE
Extensive experience in the use of MS Office suite of products including expert level Excel

Service line reporting (SLR)

Other financial reporting including budget setting.
•The post holder will utilise advanced Excel, database and SQL skills (with appropriate training where necessary) to extract and manipulate data from a number of different sources. The post holder will create complex spreadsheets and database objects and will utilise the organisation’s costing system to provide Service Line Reporting and Reference Cost information and to develop solutions to support corporate financial information requirements.
