Job Summary-Head of Organisational Development job description

Responsible for the implementation of a wide range of OD programmes, projects and initiatives and therefore must have strong theoretical and practical knowledge underpinning the ability to successfully implement change.  Will be the lead for a number of highly complex HR and OD projects and must balance a strategic view with strong project management skills.  Strategic leadership and presence in this role is essential.

To lead and manage OD with a strong and influential strategic approach and focus that will ensure the organisation remains at the forefront of OD and is seen as ‘best in class’


To work in collaboration with Heads and Senior HR Business Partners in the design and implementation of OD interventions such as Coaching, High Performing Teams and Service Improvement


Provide specialist expertise and advice to the Executive Team, Senior Managers and Leaders  on matters relating to organisational development  


To act as an ambassador and champion of OD and to represent the organisation at local and national events through invitation, award entry and networking relationships


Provide specific Organisational Development support to the Project Management Office


To define and lead OD interventions and activity that will support the achievement of an organisational culture where staff feel valued, supported, involved, engaged and empowered


Ensure that all OD interventions are SMART and evaluated effectively and learning from these evaluations shared through relevant groups


Design and lead sustainable organisational development improvement programmes commissioned by Executive Directors,

General Managers and Senior HR Colleagues, ensuring that agreed objectives and targets within the improvement programme are met within agreed timescales, and that services take ownership for sustaining improvements made



(Academic, Professional & Vocational)


•Professional qualification appropriate to the post at a Masters level


•Teaching/training qualification and/or comprehensive experience of teaching/training to postgraduate certificate/diploma level e.g. leadership/management development programmes and/or specialist programmes


•PRINCE 2 (or working towards) or equivalent significant project management experience


•Evidence of recent Continued Professional Development


Previous Experience



•Experience working at a Senior Management level


•Ability to demonstrate leading and the successful implementation of OD Programmes of work


•Ability to demonstrate strong project management of high profile learning interventions

•Ability to ensure effective delivery of the OD Plan in line with the HR and OD Strategy

•Ability to meet deadlines and take a proactive approach to OD ideas and interventions

•Excellent time management and analytical skills providing expert analysis for service re-design
