Main responsibilities-Head of Risk Management job description

Responsible for the effective delivery of the ’s risk management strategy and processes;

Working with senior managers across the business to develop and challenge their understanding of the ’s risk exposure, adequacy of mitigating controls, and appetite to risk;

Managing the overall risk reporting process to the Executive Board, as required;

Facilitating senior management (including Executive Board) discussions on risk, including leading management to an agreed view on risk issues;

Monitoring trends in risk issues in order to identify any underlying factors, and ensuring an effective process is in place for addressing actions;

Required knowledge and experience


Experience of leading a risk management function in a large-scale, complex organisation;


Detailed understanding of current best practice ideas, and experience of applying those ideas in practical situations;


Sound understanding of  strategic imperatives.


Experience of building effective working relationships with senior management;


Ability to achieve ownership amongst the senior management of an organisation through a combination of assertiveness, influencing skills and a thorough knowledge of the relevant facts;


Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, both face-to-face and in writing, including the ability to communicate complex issues clearly and succinctly to a non-technical audience.



Organisation and planning skills with the ability to deal effectively with both short term imperatives and long term planning;


Ability to lead and manage a small team;


Strong project management, change and business leadership skills demonstrated through visible commitment to the  Values; the creation and ongoing development of a high performing team, effective working with senor colleagues from the Finance and Creative communities.

To act as the focal point for risk management across the Co.

To support the  Executive Board and senior management in taking informed business decisions based on accurate and timely information on the ’s exposure to risks.

To work with the business to ensure adequate mitigating controls are in place which manage overall risk exposure to within limits set by the Executive Board.

Supporting the ’s anti-fraud initiatives, including working with divisions to understand and mitigate their fraud risks,


Sharing risk management best practice within the , and incorporating best practice from other organisations;


Mentoring senior managers on effective risk leadership and on embedding a risk management culture at all levels of the Corporation;


Promoting the use of risk management in the Corporation as an enabler of opportunities, and expanding its role towards that of a management tool for informing decision-making, creating value and competitive advantage.


To continue the evolution of the ’s risk management processes towards industry best practice in terms of embedding a risk management culture at all levels of the Corporation, and shifting the role of risk management towards that of opportunity enabler.


To provide first class leadership and line management as well as build a wider network of key contacts across the organisation.
