Work with other senior Information managers and other relevant departments with regards to IT Servers and office environment related issues to ensure technologies are appropriately and effectively administered. In conjunction with the IT Operations Manager ensure systems are delivered to an effective standard. This includes ensuring all new and existing server and office
environments are managed and maintained to support the business needs of the organization.
Educated to Degree standard or equivalent or with equivalent experiential learning
ECDL or equivalent experiential learning
Experience in staff management
Experienced in the management of third party suppliers.
Experience of managing performance and service delivery.
Awareness of best practice standards such as ITIL and BS15000.
Experience of managing projects.
Experience of managing IT server environments

Possesses computer literacy and keyboard skills
The nature of this role will involve periods of prolonged concentration e.g. participating in meetings the subject matter of which can be highly complex.

Knowledge of various network environments and server technologies.
Able to travel around the company locations and occasionally further a field with ability to work away from time to time.

Free Job description IT Server Manager
Key result areas
Work flexibly across the department, providing support and assistance to the senior management team to ensure the Information Department provides a seamless service provision consistent with the performance management framework and the
principles of continuous improvement.
Implement server management and administration procedures to ensure that the server environment is effectively and efficiently maintained.
Policy & Service Development
The post holder will work closely with senior managers within Information and the wider company to develop and implement policies within their area of expertise, and will play a key role in implementing and monitoring compliance with these policies.
Undertake regular audits to ensure that all relevant policies and procedures are adhered to on an ongoing basis.
Ensure that all internal and external audit requirements associated with the Server and office environment are undertaken and monitored.
The post holder will have the required level of experience and knowledge to work independently with their section and provide support and assistance to the senior management team in the effective running of the department - this will include taking management responsibilities as follows:
Strategic, business and financial management
In conjunction with the senior management team manage the implementation of the Information strategy, ensuring alignment with the long-term plans. Playing a lead role in the delivery of a range of supporting strategies, which will impact the Information department and the wider company.
Contribute to the monitoring and drawing up of the IT budget. This includes holding a small budget for specific pieces of work and/or responsible for the purchase of physical assets.
Service Delivery, Governance and Improvement
Establish and maintain information systems and appropriate mechanisms to monitor the department’s performance against agreed standards.
Work with Senior Managers to ensure the effective delivery of services in line with service agreements.
In conjunction with the senior management team evaluate current ways of working and take action to affect improvements. This will include tackling organisational change issues and communicating un-popular decisions. This will require a high degree of skill in terms of negotiation, persuasiveness and motivating.
Take a lead in the delivery of action plans to improve the level of compliance with governance standards particularly controls assurance, audit report recommendations, and the information governance toolkit.
Escalating any issues/concerns to Senior Managers, where appropriate.
Investigate best practice guidance, protocols, techniques and tools in relation to own field of expertise with a view to evaluating the suitability for implementation within their section.
Staff and departmental management
Lead by example to support a culture that promotes learning, quality improvement partnership working and staff development where issues and problems are discussed, understood and addressed.
Responsible for the day to day management of the Server team staff. Including responsibility for the initial stages of grievance and discipline, appraisal, reviewing work performance and progress, work allocation and checking.
Assist and deputise, where appropriate, for the IT Operations Manager and IT and Networks Manager across a range of IM&T issues.
Systems Management and Support
Manage the Server environment ensuring that appropriate maintenance agreements are negotiated and monitored. Inherent in this is the need to carry out regular reviews of the performance and quality of all associated third party support contracts and take remedial action when necessary.
In conjunction with the IT Operations Manager prepare tender specifications related to the server environment, for example, server hardware, server software and all other related equipment.
Liaise with and work in conjunction with Senior Information Managers in delivering integrated systems and networking solutions which requires the planning and organising of complex activities or programmes involving the formulation and adjustment of plans.
Be aware of ongoing and future developments within the IT industry and where appropriate assess and perform feasibility studies of new technology with a view to recommending technical and service improvements, in line with Information requirements.
Work with appropriate project teams with regard to server infrastructure related issues in the preparation of plans for new builds, building upgrades and other related initiatives. This will require judgments involving complex facts or situations, which require the analysis, interpretation and comparison of a range of options.
Assist in the preparation of plans for the maintenance and continued delivery of IT services during periods of major breakdown or other contingency circumstances.
Provide a high standard of professional conduct at all times, acting in the best interests of the client.
Regularly handle information of an extremely confidential nature.
Take personal accountability for your own development, in line with your personal development plan, and keeping professionally up-to-date.
Works to achieve agreed objectives and has freedom to do this in own way, working within broad professional policies; advises without reference to manager. Acts as a lead specialist in own area.
