Job Summary

To provide clinical support to the nursing and therapy team and assist in delivering nursing care according to the individual needs of the patient as identified in the care plan and under supervision of a senior member of the nursing team.

Job Description for Care Assistant

o To work under the supervision of Qualified Nursing Staff in the delivery of individual care plans

o To contribute to the protection of individuals from any type of harm by contributing to risk management and minimising potential risk

o Observing and monitoring patient’s behaviour, mood and reporting any changes to the nurse in charge

o Assisting in maintaining an atmosphere that is safe and supportive for patients and staff.

o Complying with policies and procedures.

o Understanding of the broad definitions of the mental health act.

o Encouraging and assisting patients with activities of daily living to ensure optimum privacy and dignity, are met in accordance with patients wishes and beliefs.

 

o Enabling patients to achieve physical comfort and maintain personal hygiene and appearance

o Supporting individuals experiencing a change in their care requirement and provision or as they move through different stages of treatment

o Enabling patients to visit and receive other health care and community services by making transport arrangements as directed and ensuring relevant documentation ready in accordance with the Mental Health Act 193 and procedures

o escorting patients attending any form of appointment, recreation, leisure, social, spiritual occasion or on day trips.

 

 

o Contribute to Care Planning and the delivery of care by carrying out nursing procedures in accordance with procedures

o Contributing to the planning implementation and evaluation of therapeutic programmes

o Ensuring documentation is completed accurately and promptly to ensure care is recorded and essential information is available to other members of the care team

o Assisting in health education in the ward/dept, by encouraging the patients to self-care and participate in health promotion activities as directed

o Under the direction of a senior member of the care team undertake delegated clinical procedures when competence has been demonstrated.

General

Experience

 

Experience of working with vulnerable people

Willingness to use supervision and seek guidance

 

Post holders will be required to participate in the management of violence and aggression, including successful completion of internally provided MVA Training on a regular basis, a degree of physical fitness and mobility is therefore required.

 

Contributing to an environment, which ensures that the physical, psychological, social, spiritual, cultural and educational needs of the patient are met, maximising personal development of each client by establishing equal relationships with people with all degrees of disability and challenging behaviour.

 

Infection Control

Those who have a managerial/supervisory post must ensure that:

o There is compliance with agreed Infection Control [IC] policies and procedures within their service.

 

o Each employee must be aware and comply with IC within their own role. This includes adherence to prevention of infection
