Job Description for Sales Associate Bookstore
The Bookstore Assistant is responsible for implementing opening and closing retail procedures, providing excellent customer service and maintaining the appearance of the retail department through merchandizing and maintenance. The incumbent, working within a customer service orientated environment, is expected to be responsive to the needs and concerns of customers, and cognizant in product knowledge and informationon RDC and the Bookstore.
1. Provides customer and retail services
a) Executes opening and closing store procedures including the opening and closing processes on the
b) Executes daily retail operations and transactions.
c) Provides high level of customer service implementing store standards.
d) Provides reception and answers queries via walk-in traffic, telephone, email and electronic
e) Knows and implements the store’s loss prevention guidelines.
f) Assists with buyback programs.
g) Executes TicketMaster retail operations and transactions.
h) Assists with the training of staff and provide direction as required.
i) Informs and updates Bookstore staff on all aspects of Customer Service Operations.
j) Assists with newspapers, paperback and magazine receipts and returns.
2. Maintains the retail department
a) Organizes, cleans and maintains the cashier stations and retail areas.
b) Assists with the set up of displays and merchandizing plans under the direction of the buyers.
c) Assists the Shipper/Receivers in stocking the shelves and ticketing merchandise.
3. Provides support for other operations within the Bookstore
a) Informs buyers and shippers/receivers of inventory levels, pricing issues, sku problems.
b) Prepares for and completes yearly inventory.
c) Provides relief as necessary for other store positions.
d) Ensures a safe and healthy work environment by complying with college health and safety
policies, standard practices, and programs in keeping with occupational health & safety
legislation and regulations
• Minimum Grade 12 required.
• Minimum of two years experience in retail sales including merchandizing.
• Experience as a Third Key in a retail operation.
• Must have demonstrated customer service skills.
