Job Summary-Job description Network Services Technical Lead

Technical lead of the Network team and exposed to the many technologies that are currently utilised in a company.  The position requires you to provide expert technology leadership to the Network team and hands on 3rd line Network support to the Customer Support and 3rd line infrastructure teams, as well as working on projects, as driven by business demands

•Lead, develop and manage the performance of the Network team to build the skills and capabilities needed to deliver the required results.

 

•To provide technical support in both a proactive and reactive manner, ensuring systems are stable and performing within the terms of their respective Service Level Agreements.

 

•To design and implement Network infrastructure, as well as provide day-to-day monitoring, capacity planning and management of the existing estate.

 

•To evaluate and apply any necessary operating system patches, and updates.

 

•To work with other members of the Network team to troubleshoot and resolve any issues that may arise, working with vendor support where necessary

 

Knowledge & Skills

 

Essential

 

•Can demonstrate a high level of technical capabilities within the Network area, sufficient to provide support, advice and guidance to the team members.

 

•Excellent understanding of Networking technologies.

 

•Knowledge and experience of routing: EIGRP, VRFs, OSPF, route redistribution, IP Multicast.

 

•Knowledge and experience in Switching: VLAN, gateway redundancy, Spanning Tree, and Etherchannel.

 

•Knowledge and experience of VPN technologies, specifically: IPSec LAN to LAN and VPN client software.

 

•Experience in working with Circuits and MPLS wide area networks.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

•A demonstrable track record of the support and troubleshooting of core network enterprise infrastructure and devices around Cisco technologies: routers, switches and Cisco software including Cisco ACS, NCS and LCS.

 

•Experience in installing, supporting and maintaining a VOIP infrastructure built upon, Mitel, Cisco Callmanager, Cisco Unity, Telephonetics VIP and ACD.

 

•The ability to see the "end point" and know the steps required to get there.

 

Desirable

 

•Experience in any working with multi vendor switching and routing technology.

 

•Proven track record in working with IPTV solutions such as Tripleplay and Exterity.

 

•Understanding of working with Fibre Channel fabrics, such as Cisco MDS.

 

•Experience in working with VMware ESXi and Windows server operating systems.

 

•A good understanding of HP Blade technologies including HP Virtual Connect.

 

Education

 

CCNP qualified is essential for the role.

 

Professional Experience

 

•Demonstrates strong experience within a 3rd line infrastructure role.

 

•Proven track record in problem solving, within a medium to large enterprise environment.

 

•Excellent communication skills, with the ability to listen, understand and present clear solutions to problems.

 

 

 

•To keep abreast of developing Networking technologies, as well as contribute towards producing roadmaps.

 

•To deliver results within given time frames, ensuring that your work is consistent, well documented and in-line with team standards at all times.

 

•You will be expected to provide out of hours, on-call support for critical systems on a shift rota basis and, where necessary, work the occasional weekend/evening to perform maintenance, upgrades, and repairs or troubleshooting

 

Strategic Planning & Decision Making

Assess the skills required by the Network team to meet the known and expected demands of technology roadmaps, then work with team members to recommend individual personal development plans to the Head of Infrastructure.

 

Relationships

You will report to the Head of Infrastructure, however you will work on a daily basis with the user community as well as the Customer Support, Infrastructure Support and Enterprise Architect teams. You will be expected to maintain current relationships with external suppliers as well build new ones where neccesary.
