Free Job description Server & Storage Engineer
As a member of the Server and Storage team, you will be exposed to the many technologies that are currently utilised in the company. The position requires you to provide 3rd line server or storage support to the 1st and 2nd line teams, as well as the wider Technology department.
•To provide technical support in both a proactive and reactive manner, ensuring systems are stable and performing within the terms of their respective Service Level Agreements.
•To design and implement new server or storage infrastructure, as well as provide day-to-day monitoring, capacity planning and management of the existing estate.
•To evaluate and apply any necessary operating system security patches, hotfixes, service packs and hardware updates.
•To work with other members of the Server and Storage team to troubleshoot and resolve any issues that may arise, working with vendor support where necessary.
•To keep abreast of developing server and storage technologies, as well as contribute towards producing roadmaps.
Knowledge & Skills
•A general understanding of Networking technologies.
•Experience in working with VMware ESXi and Windows server 2003/2008 R2 operating systems.
•Working knowledge of monitoring solutions, such as: Microsoft SCOM and HP SIM.
•A good understanding of HP Blade technologies including HP Virtual Connect.
•Has previously worked with backup products, such as Symantec Netbackup or Microsoft DPM.
•Experience in installing, supporting and maintaining server and storage hardware.
•Hands on experience in working with Microsoft Active Directory Services at a 3rd line level.
•The ability to see the "end point" and know the steps required to get there.
•Experience in any other server operating system support.
•Working knowledge of NetApp technologies.
•Experience in using and managing server Anti-Virus products.
•Working knowledge of automated deployment technologies, specifically used to deploy Windows based operating systems. SCCM knowledge advantageous.
•Hands on experience working with Fibre Channel fabrics, such as Cisco MDS.
Microsoft MCSE, Netapp or any Vmware certifications would be advantageous.
•Possess strong experience in a 3rd line infrastructure role.
•Proven track record in problem solving, within a medium to large enterprise environment.
•Excellent communication skills, with the ability to listen, understand and present clear solutions to problems.
•To deliver results within given time frames, ensuring that your work is consistent, well documented and in-line with team standards at all times.
•You will be expected to provide out of hours, on-call support for critical systems on a shift rota basis and, where necessary, work the occasional weekend/evening to perform maintenance, upgrades, and repairs or troubleshooting.
ou will be expected to work with minimal guidance, providing operating system and hardware support to the global server and storage estate.
Predominantly based on Wintel platforms, with a vast majority of them virtualised. As well as supporting the existing infrastructure, you will also be required to install and potentially design new infrastructure based on business
You will produce strategies for the current technology platforms as well as suggesting new ways to improve the environment based on changing business needs.
