Job Summary

The Fire Shift Supervisor position is primarily responsible to direct and supervise the programs and activities of an assigned shift to coordinate fire personnel and coverage for assigned shift as well as coordinate activities with other company departments, divisions and outside agencies, and to provide highly responsible assistance as directed by the Fire Section Head.

WORK PERFORMED

2.1 Supervises and coordinates activities of assigned shift including shift fire suppression, emergency medical services and hazardous material management; Plans, directs, coordinates and reviews the work plan for assigned shift, meets with staff to identify and resolves problems; assigns work activities and monitors workflow, reviews and evaluates work products, methods and procedures.

 

2.2 Schedules personnel for assigned shift to ensure proper coverage and manpower, endorses and schedules vacation and other leave requests, prepares timesheets for all shift personnel. Assumes management responsibility for all services, operations and activities of assigned shift.

 

2.3 Participates in the development and implementation of goals, objectives and priorities for assigned shift; recommends and administers changes in Fire Section policies and procedures. Works with other management staff to maintain, revise or improve the overall operations of the section.

2.4 Establishes and monitors employee performance objectives; prepares and presents employee performance reviews, works with employees to correct deficiencies and implements discipline procedures.

2.5 Continuously monitors and evaluates the efficiency and effectiveness of service delivery methods and

2.7 Prepares a variety of reports and other correspondences regarding fire incidents or other emergency incidents on assigned shifts; prepares daily shift operations activity report; prepares and presents monthly reports and submits to Fire Section Head.

 

2.8 Prepares periodic station inspection to ensure proper maintenance of buildings and grounds; evaluates repair and replacement needs; coordinates building needs and repair with appropriate personnel. Oversees the care and cleaning of quarters, buildings, grounds, apparatus and equipment. Supervises the maintenance, repair or replacement of fire apparatus and equipment.

2.9 Responds to alarms as required by Fire Section Policy; acts as Fire Commander and performs at the Hazmat “Operations Level” at the scene of emergencies as necessary.

 

2.10 Develops, supervises and implements a comprehensive fire prevention, pre-fire planning and inspection programmes.

2.11 Assists in the development and implementation procedural methods and practices for reviewing plans, conducting inspections and investigating fire incidents.

2.12 Performs inspection of company facilities and buildings to detect fire hazards and conditions; prepare reports and recommendations concerning violations and unsafe conditions.

 

2.13 Investigates fire incidents of unknown or questionable origin as required; determines the origin, cause and loss value of fire incidents, and collects evidence as required.

2.14 Coordinates the activities of fire prevention and inspection with other programs of the Fire Section and with other departments and divisions in the Company

2.15 Meets with engineers, contractors and other involved in development and construction activities; reviews plans and makes appropriate fire safety recommendations concerning new construction.

 

2.16 Performs other similar or related duties as assigned such as representing the Fire Section at committees as necessary, developing and participating in Company information programs concerning fire prevention and education, developing and maintaining a variety of records and reports etc

MINIMUM REQUIREMENT

8.1 Completion of Technical Secondary education (12 Years) followed by 2 years full time training leading to a Diploma in Fire Engineering/Fire Science.

8.2 8 years of increasingly responsible experience in the SEFD Fire Section including two years as a Lead Fireman.

8.3 Must possess a valid UAE drivers License.

8.4 Good knowledge of English Language.
