Logistics Job Description
Forms a vital part of the supply chain process. The position ultimately takes ownership of the warehouse and planning function ensuring efficient receipt, production, storage and dispatch of a wide range of products working with both internal and external stakeholders.
1. Stock Control
Manage receipt, storage, retrieval and timely delivery of all products
Manage work schedules
Overseeing stock control and processing orders
Plan future capacity requirements
Ensure effective management and review of sub-contractors
2. Service Delivery
Ensuring all objectives and directions from the Operations Manager are achieved
Work closely with all areas of the supply chain to ensure effective service delivery for production
3. Systems Control
Review and amend data entry systems
Full review and development of Warehouse systems and procedures
Coordinating the use of automated and computerised systems
Ensure stock control systems are kept fully up to date at all times
Overseeing the planned maintenance of stores vehicles, machinery and equipment
Setup layout and space management procedures
Ensure SOP’s and 5S are in place within the Warehouse
Issue Inventory report, IN/OUT status report, dead stock report, goods age report, consumption report and manpower status report to Operations Manager
Work with Walker Filtration information system ‘Efacs’ to process information such as Goods In/Out, PI Counts, Control Redundant Stock, Stock Discrepancies
4. Cost Reduction
Implement cost reduction principles in all aspects of the warehouse transaction and activities
Take a proactive approach to waste management & reduction
5. Effective People Management
Recruit, develop and performance manage a team in line with company objectives
Develop a motivated team to achieve results
Ensure staff training and development is completed in line with required deadlines
Manage daily workloads and supervise effective completion
Succession and Manpower planning
Supervise the administration process to ensure accurate records are kept at all times
6. Health and Safety & Legal Compliance
Maintaining standards of Health and Safety
Ensure all working practices follow a safe system of work
Ensuring all documentation is up to date in relation to use of Fork Lift Trucks
Maintain housekeeping within the Warehouse, delivery and car park area
Ability to communicate to all levels within the organisation
Developing effective relationships with the Planning and Purchasing departments to ensure effective communication of key messages
Responding to and dealing with customer or supplier communication by telephone, email or fax
Producing regular reports and statistics as required to keep the company up to date
Develop sound working relationships with stakeholders, suppliers and transport companies
Any other reasonable task the manager may deem as suitable for the role.
Degree Educated in a relevant field
Professional Qualification in Warehouse & Distribution Operations is advantageous
5 years’ experience in a warehouse supervisory role
Highly computer literate (Microsoft Office package)
3 A levels (C or above)
G.C.S.E’s (C or above in Maths and English)
Ability to work on own initiative with a pro-active strategic approach to challenges
Confident commercial awareness and clear business acumen
Ability to influence individuals and teams to achieve desired goals and objectives
Manpower planning ability
Excellent oral and written communication skills
Effective Team player
Ability to motivate and lead a team to achieve set goals
Ability to take a systematic approach to daily operations
Highly motivated and able to build close relationships internally and externally
Customer and market orientated
Scope: Will take full ownership and responsibility for the security, storage and internal distribution of products and ensuring that the planning function is managed efficiently and materials are available when required. Take a pro-active approach to the overall improvement and development of warehouse and planning practices.
