OS and Hardware job description
Provide technical expertise that is critical to business, in terms of the I.T. infrastructure, project and research work related to operating systems, hardware and storage, strategic planning and third- and fourth-line support.
Offer technical assurance to the business within a project environment
Provide a clear transition plan for new services from Development into Support
To work within the defined Development processes, enabling time to be recovered from projects, and delivering research and feasibility investigations according to agreed deadlines
To ensure resolution of incidents and problems according to agreed service and operational levels.
To identify and implement solutions to prevent impact to the business, improve performance and reduce operational costs of the service
To ensure software and hardware remains supportable by internal support groups and 3rd parties in accordance with agreed service levels
To develop and maintain user and support documentation to effectively manage the service to the business
To work within the defined Service Management processes, including Incident, Problem, Service Desk, Change, Configuration, Release and Service Level Management
To input to Business Continuity plans as required
To deliver suggestions and solutions in areas of technical expertise
Take technical ownership of assigned systems
COMMUNICATION AND TEAMWORK
To work closely with all teams across TS&D, 3rd party suppliers and line managers to resolve issues to the satisfaction of the business
Liaise with the business to resolve incidents and problems in an effective and timely manner
Provide input to the development of new or enhanced services
Knowledge Skills and Experience
Proven technical expertise in operating systems, hardware and storage.
Excellent customer and business focus with the ability to deal with sensitive information appropriately.
Good communications skills, capability to adapt language and approach to communicate with people from both technical and non-technical backgrounds
Hold a relevant degree in Engineering/Science or have equivalent experience
Have a sound understanding of the Service Management processes (e.g. ITIL)
Be able to use creative and analytical thinking to provide solid and informed solutions, using new and existing technologies
Monitoring aims and objectives, products, technology practices and standards
Produce quality work in an efficient manner, in terms of both time and cost.
Ability to manage customer's needs and expectations at all levels in the business
Have a excellent understanding of relevant disciplines relating to operating systems, hardware and storage in an international corporate environment. Provide best design advice and support solutions in this environment.
Keep up-to-date with the marketplace and relevant applications to advise Monitoring on the available choice of technologies.
To be successful in this role the post holder will need to work collaboratively with external customers and suppliers, other staff, managers and team leaders.

To assist the business to meet its requirements by making recommendations on the use of technology
Research the latest technology, spreading this knowledge and using it to enhance solutions
