In particular, the post holder will be expected to:

    * a) Ensure the organisation complies with relevant legislation, regulations, codes of practice or technical guidance in all matters relating to security.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

 

Communication and Relationship Skills

 

    * a) Communicates and liaises effectively will all levels of staff within the organisation.

    * b) Communicate with patients, staff and carers in often highly emotive situations and ensure all interaction is carried out in a professional manner.

    * c) Develop effective communication with and develop a working relationship with external organisations such as the NHS Local Security Management Service and the police.

 

 

Physical Skills

 

    * a) Provide appropriate training, guidance and advice to managers to enable them to complete pro-active risk assessments on security matter, in particular around violence and aggression.

    * b) Lead on and carry out the day-to day work in relation to the NHS Security Management Service National Framework.

    * c) Draft the annual security work plan and ensure the Trust meets the requirements of the work plan.

    * d) Ensure any security related incidents are reported through the central reporting system.

    * e) Ensure that any necessary actions required as a result of a security incident are carried out and any action plans followed up.

    * f) Undertake a site lockdown risk assessment in accordance with the requirements of the National Health Service Authority Risk Management Standards.

    * g) Ensure the Trust meets the required external reporting obligations.

    * h) Liaise with the Head of Risk Management and the Executive responsible for security in matters relating to VIP visit.

    * i) Carry out training to all levels of staff within the organisation.

    * j) Provide reports for and attend the Security Group.

 

 

Responsibility for Patient/Client Care

 

    * a) Manage security related incidents involving patients/carers in a professional manner.

    * b) Ensure patients/carers are aware of a pro-active security culture within the organisation.

Knowledge, Training and Experience

 

    * a) To use the specialist knowledge around LSMS accreditation to plan, implement and evaluate a robust security programme within the organisation in order to create a pro-active security culture within the Trust.

    * b) To have as a minimum 2 years experience of security management related work.

    * c) Use specialist knowledge of the Security Management Service National Framework and Guidance and ensure compliance by the organisation.

    * d) Ensure the Trust complies with all relevant, current legislation in all matters relating to security.

 

Analytical and Judgement Skills

 

    * a) Taking into consideration current legislation, have the ability to assess and analyse security related situations and act appropriately.

    * b) Ability to review reported incidents and carry out trend analysis.

 

Planning and Organisational Skills

 

    * a) Plan and implement the security strategy for the organisation for 2009/2010.

    * b) Draft the annual security work plan for 2009/2010 and submit to the NHS Local Security Management Service.
