Knowledge, Training and Experience
Solicitor or Barrister with between 2 – 5 years PQE
Considerable experience of commercial contracts.
Detailed knowledge and practical application of the following areas of English law to at least degree level in at least 3 of the following:
Contract law, Competition law, Procurement law, IT law, Data law, IP law, Biosciences, Corporate law,
Evidence of post qualifying and continuing professional development
Must have an understanding of the background to and aims of policy and appreciate the implications of this on engagement
Developed communication skills for delivering key messages to a range of stakeholders both internal and external
to the organisation, some at very senior level.
Good presentational skills for conveying complex concepts.
Ability to use informed persuasion to influence others.
Ability to identify risks, anticipate issues and create solutions and to resolve problems in relation to project or service delivery.
Ability to understand a broad range of complex information quickly and making decisions where opinions differ/no obvious solution
Evidence of planning and delivering projects and legal services on time.
Abilities for financial and staff management
Working knowledge of Microsoft Office with intermediate keyboard skills.
Ability to work without supervision, providing specialist advice to the organisation, working to tight and often changing timescales

Proactively manage and drive forward deals and projects within short timelines liaising with other internal teams, for example: commercial policy; data protection; rights clearances; tax and finance.
Help revise and develop precedents, training, advice notes to the business to support gaming, digital transactions and processes.
Provide first class legal and business affairs advice and support to the commercial teams by providing timely and high quality advice all in a practical and commercially focused way in relation to all relevant matters that reduce risk, resolve issues and maximise the opportunity for the business to deliver on its goals
To ensure compliance with all policies and procedures and relevant legislation (including for example fair trading, anti-fraud and corruption, editorial, ethical and environmental)
To manage junior lawyers
To perform as part of a team and to liaise with the wider team in relation to brand protection, data protection, ethical policy, corporate matters etc) in order to effectively perform the role
Scope & Impact
It is a senior role within the Business & Legal Affairs, UK Legal team.
Success in the role will be measured by the extent to which digital matters are completed in a timely and cost effective manner, meeting the priorities and objectives of the UK Publishing and Entertainment strategies.
Support Games and Publishing teams with priorities and objectives in a fast moving, technology driven market, working closely with relevant stakeholders in a timely and effective way to deliver the best outcome for the organisation and to support the businesses in delivering their targets
Provide advice in relation to, and draft and negotiate legal documentation relating to games’ deals, digital publishing and entertainment projects, including: affiliate deals and digital partnerships with platforms and device/ console manufacturers; brand licences; development and publication of apps across numerous platforms; website development and international licensing of websites and syndication of website content; and digital magazine publishing.
