Job Summary

To assist in the maintenance, management and development of the data and telephony network infrastructure and server support function of the ICT Shared Services.

Assist in the research, specification, design, implementation, testing and management of ‘new’ applications and computing system developments, in conjunction with the Senior Systems Engineers and other staff ICT Services.  Where appropriate ensuring that 3rd party suppliers are properly supervised, quality inspections are undertaken and that appropriate training and supporting documentation is provided, to facilitate successful commissioning and hand-over of systems to required standards.

 

Provide technical support and advice services for the ICT Services infrastructure of to enable key organisational and clinical functions to be maintained.

Assist the Network and Systems Manager/Senior Systems engineers to manage and performance monitor the entire network infrastructure (including servers, pc’s, network and desktop printers, routers, switches etc…) to ensure that system availability is ‘maximised’ and that they directly maintain the business continuity of the Trusts.

 

To train and mentor assigned staff where necessary.

 

Assist the Network and Systems Manager/Senior Systems engineers to manage and performance monitor the network infrastructure (including servers, pc’s, network and desktop printers, routers, switches etc…) to ensure that system availability is ‘maximised’ and that they directly maintain the business continuity of the Trusts.

 

Performance Monitor 3rd party Service Level Agreement’s, where required, to ensure contractual levels of service and performance are delivered (i.e. analysis of helpdesk statistics to improve service delivery and identify areas of concern).

 

Protects the security and functionality of the Server Resources by ensuring that appropriate security counter-measures are applied, e.g. anti-virus software, use of automated system backups and that system passwords are only disclosed on a ‘need-to-know’ basis.

 

Assist in the Development of operational procedures so that system security administration becomes an ‘intrinsic’ function within routine duties and acts as an aid towards achieving ISO17799 security accreditation

 

Assist in the participation of the Trusts ‘on-call’ Computing service.

 

Ensure confidentiality in line with the Data Protection Act 1984 and the Trust’s IM&T Security Policy of information obtained during the course of employment on all matters relating to patients, staff and the Trust’s business.

 

The post holder will be required to provide advice and guidance on highly complex technical issues across whole sectors of the local health community.

 

Assist in the production of departmental policies and procedures which would have a direct impact to the department and/or change within (i.e. if legislation or organisational policies are changed, be able create/adapt departmental procedures to reflect these changes).

 

Assist in the review systems and manage change (i.e. Monitor efficiency and implement changes if required).

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

To assess and contribute to the future needs of the service (i.e. Monitor service performance and improve where practical).

 

To deal with calls which have been escalated according to the Services Level Agreements (SLA’s) in an appropriate manner.

 

Configure Desktop/Laptops to agreed Corporate build and to provide ongoing development of the build/process.

 

Deliver, asset and Install IT equipment to customer desktop/premises. This will regularly require lifting/carrying of equipment in excess of 15kg using mechanical aids & assistance where required.

 

To co-ordinate with 3rd party suppliers for resolution of faults outside the scope of ICT Services i.e. Cable and Wireless, BT, Dell, Microsoft etc.

 

To lead on IT projects when required, according to project procedure and reporting status to the IT Senior Management Team.

 

Communication and Relationships

• Ability to prioritise own workload, and that of others that enables the team to work efficiently and achieve deadlines, manages workload of team.

• Ability to communicate effectively and confidently with staff at all levels, in a manner understood by non technical personnel.

• Ability to deal with clients of ICT services in a manner that is appropriate for all levels of staff.

8. Responsibilities of the Post Holder

 

Policy/Service Development

• To assess any work related risks & ensure that they are reported in accordance with the Trust’s Risk Management Policy and associated procedures.

• To ensure that all IT equipment is configured according to agreed corporate build & to provide ongoing development of the build/process and that asseting, delivery & installation of all IT equipment to customer premises/desktop is within prescribed SLA’s

• To actively assist other relevant staff in ensuring that all services comply with relevant IM&T security guidelines, protocols & the code of connection

• Assist in the production of departmental policies & procedures which would have a direct impact to the department &/or change within.

• Assist in the development of operational procedures so that system security administration becomes an ‘intrinsic’ function within routine duties & acts as an aid towards achieving  security compliance.

 

Financial and Physical Resources

• Responsible for the safe use of Directorate equipment

• An understanding of the cost & vulnerability of all IT equipment & be able to use & demonstrate the use of equipment in a safe & effective manner

• To sign off time sheets & expenses for technicians as required

 

Human Resources

• Ensure the operational management of service delivery through the supervision of assigned staff, prioritisation of the workload & advanced technical expertise.

• To ensure there is sufficient staff cover to enable all support calls can be responded to within laid down parameters of the SLA’s given sufficient resources available.

Systems Technician

 

Provide technical support and advice servicesor the infrastructure of (for all server and network technologies) to enable key organisational and clinical functions to be maintained.
