NVQ level two


Full UK driving license including C1 & D1 category













Understanding and underpinning knowledge of vehicle wheel alignment principles and ability to carry out wheel alignment to the highest standards.


Understanding and underpinning knowledge of vehicle wheel-fitting processes.


Theoretical knowledge of tyre legislation.


Have a good understanding of the safety issues relating to the vehicles including Health and Safety legislation, Handling and Moving regulations, COSHH regulations.



Have past experience of tyre fitting, wheel alignment and tyre inspection processes


Have previous experience working in a related environment.



Good inter-personal and communication skills


Good core English language / written skills to carry out the recording aspects of tyre inspections.

Free Job description Tyre Fitter

•To carry out all tyre inspections and recording the results of these inspections


•Ensure that the winter / summer tyre replacement program is completed within the defined timescales


•Responsible for replacing all vehicle tyres as & when required or if they reach the tread-depth limit


•Ensuring that all wheels are balanced following the fitment of new tyres


•Wheel- alignment is carried out where necessary


•Preparing tyres for collection/disposal by the tyre supplier


•Ensuring the road wheels are prepared for fitment and all mated surfaces are clean and rust-free


•Ensuring that all of the workshop areas are kept clean & tidy and any cardboard waste is prepared for re-cycling


•Required to collect tyres and or other essential parts as and when required


Key Result Areas


1.All vehicle tyres are replaced where necessary and turned on rims if wear is uneven to maximise tyre use.


2.All tyre inspections are carried out and fully documented


3.Winter tyre / summer tyre programs are carried out in line with the planned program


4.All areas of the workshops are kept in a condition of cleanliness that promotes a professional image of the department and meets health and safety inspection standards


5.Parts and tyres are collected in a timely manner


6.Tyre stocks (winter and summer) are maintained and all tyres are stored in an appropriate, tidy and safe manner


7.Wheel alignment is carried out where necessary to reduce wear on tyres


8.Used tyres are prepared for collection and disposal by the tyre contractor


9.When tyres are fitted to road wheels, ensure that the wheels are prepared for fitment through the cleaning and preparation of mated-surfaces


10.Carry out routine (documented) wheel-nut torque checks


11.Responsible for ensuring that the workshop areas are kept clean, tidy and safe.


12.All workshop waste is suitable segregated and prepared for collection by contractors


13.Delivery / collection of parts as required or instructed by the Team Leader


14.All workshop power tools are located in the correct position and prepared for inspection by contractors








Functional Responsibilities


1.To liaise with Fleet Team Leaders and Motor Vehicle Technicians to ensure that tyres are replaced whenever they are required.


2.Follows policy within the work area of the role and responsible for maintaining the quality procedures relevant to the department.


3.The post holder is responsible for maintaining all H&S requirements and safe working practices within own working environment.


4.Take part in all required training courses to obtain and maintain appropriate knowledge or skills in relation to effective performance of the post.


5.Responsible for carrying out and recording of all tyre inspections.


6.The role is workshop-based and involves daily physical work exerting moderate physical effort for most of the shift.
