To take editorial responsibility for developing and launching new websites and for maintaining content across a number of company websites and the intranet.
To contribute, develop and realise editorial and technical ideas to improve company websites.
To project manage the delivery of new or redesigned sites including
- developing the brief
- advising colleagues on structure, content and design
- managing timelines and budget
- commissioning and managing external suppliers such as usability experts, web designers and copywriters
- ensuring editorial, technical and accessibility standards are met and maintained
To provide advice and guidance on site development and site structure to colleagues across the division
To take responsibility for checking copyright has been cleared where applicable and ensuring content meet legal and editorial guidelines
To generate new editorial and technical ideas to develop and improve our services on the web
To collate and sub material, maintaining high editorial standards
To source and edit images, ensuring web standard guidelines are adhered to
To update and maintain content and links across a number of sites
To ensure that performance reports for the sites are compiled
To represent/deputise for the web editor at meetings and events as required
To comply with all relevant safety rules, procedures and guidelines. To be aware of responsibilities under the company safety policy
Sound understanding of the web publishing environment and the opportunities it offers
Experience of working with stakeholders to produce websites
Experience of briefing designers and coders
Experience of creating and editing websites using Dreamweaver or other authoring tools
Proven editorial experience including editing, copy-writing and proof-reading with an eye for creative copy and good design
Ability to create and manipulate images using Photoshop, Image Ready or Flash
Able to demonstrate up-to-date understanding of, and interest in, www trends and techniques
Sound understanding of accessibility, usability and navigation issues
Experience of working within web guidelines
Ability to prioritise and remain unflappable under pressure
Accuracy and attention to detail
Excellent communication skills including the ability to explain technical issues to non-technical people
